NEWS FROM THE PROJECT

BE PART OF THE NETWORK AND GET FIRST HAND RESEARCH KNOWLEDGE

The Datemats partners main objective is to transfer knowledge on Emerging Materials & Technologies - short EM&Ts - from academia and research to the industry and the future workforce. To do so, being in direct touch with industrial players, material producers and end-users, is crucial for the Higher Education Institutions of the Datemats consortium. To create this important connection, the Datemats Manifesto has been launched with the aim to foster exchange and collaboration now, while the project is running, and even after its end, in December 2021. Are you an EM&T producer or end-user who wants to be up-to-date on emerging materials and technologies and how to design with them? Make your statement and join the Datemats network now! UNDERSTANDING EM&Ts: THE DATEMATS MATERIAL TOOLKIT VERSION 1

The main aim of the Datemats project is to develop new methods to transfer knowledge about Emerging Materials and Technologies (EM&Ts). Part of the elaborated methodology is the creation of a toolkit presenting several materials as case study to explain the four areas addressed in the project (what are the Datemats EM&Ts? Discover them here). The toolkit is a collection of 20 material samples illustrating their physical properties, technical features and possible application areas through descriptive datasheets, graphs and digital content. After testing this initial version in the knowledge transfer activities, targeted both to the students participating in the project mobility and to the companies involved in the Datemats Knowledge Transfer Labs, an improved and updated version will be created at the end of the project, in late 2021. Hopefully, by that time we will be able to hold physical meetups in order to present the final Datemats EM&Ts toolkit to a broad audience of design and material enthusiasts. Read more ...

THE DATEMATS' KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER LABS HELD DESPITE ALL ODDS

The Knowledge Transfer Labs (KTL) are a series of workshops organised by the Datemats partners to test and evaluate the design thinking methods defined within the project. The workshops were initially planned to be held before Summer 2020 but had to be rearranged due to the pandemic that was faced by all involved parties. The COVID-19 situation has been a challenge for the consortium in reaching the targeted amount of companies to involve while maintaining restrictions in number of participants, respecting physical distancing and local health security guidelines. Eventually, a detailed planning of the events provided by task leader Industrial Development Center (IDC) and a tight collaboration with the other hosts of the workshops allowed to execute a series of successful sessions during September and October. Besides offering new knowledge on material innovation to the participants, the workshops provided valuable feedback to improve the project outputs while getting in direct contact with companies for further involvement. Have a look at the resource section and download the publicly available project outputs, including the guidelines for organising the KTL activities. Read more ...

4TH TRANSNATIONAL COORDINATION MEETING: STICKING TO THE ONLINE MODE

Initially, the event was planned to be held as a two day meet up in Milan (Italy) at PoliMi premises. In April, when the dates for this meeting were set, partners were hopeful that the global COVID-19 situation would change during the summer months allowing to get back to physical encounters. As well known, the scenario has not significantly changed since spring forcing consortium partners to stick to the online mode for any project related activities. The main topic of the meeting was the successful submission of the interim report after the summer break, a great effort of work that involved all project partners intensively. The preparation of the interim report ensured the consortium to collect all the project outputs due after halftime of the project duration, in summer 2020.
