CONSORTIUM MEETING IN COPENHAGEN: SECOND GATHERING HOSTED BY PARTNER KEA

Datemats consortium came together for the second project meeting in Copenhagen, hosted by project partner KEA – Copenhagen School of Design and Technology. The encounter was scheduled on two half days, on October 9th and 10th 2019, optimising travel arrangements for all participants. Splitting the meeting in two days offered also the possibility to structure the gathering in a way to have a general overview on the project and to go in depth on some specific issues, too. First day served as an update on running activities involving all partners, addressing each work package, presented by its responsible partner, and thus providing a common knowledge level. The second day was dedicated to an interdisciplinary knowledge sharing workshop where all partners participated in a co-design creative session. The next project meeting will take place in Barcelona – on April 2 and 3 2020. Stay tuned to discover the outcomes of the ongoing activities!

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER WORKSHOP: DATEMATS PARTNERS DIVE INTO THE 4 EM&Ts AREAS

Datemats project deals with the wide area of Emerging Materials and Technologies (EM&Ts) and has the aim to transfer knowledge both to students and industry.
To do so, new approaches in Design Teaching Methods (DTM) on four exemplified areas are explored by the involved HEIs, each of them focusing on their field of expertise. Part of the project’s preparatory phase was the “Knowledge Transfer Workshop, held on day 2 of the consortium meeting in Copenhagen, an interdisciplinary sharing activity involving all consortium partners and considered a crucial moment as the outcomes set the ground for the definition of the contents of the new Teaching Method. In this scenario, each HEI presented a selection of materials, describing their strengths and applications: “ICS: Wearables” by Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), “Advanced Growing” by Copenhagen School of Design and Technology (KEA), “Carbon-based and Nano” by University of Navarra (TECNUN) and “Wood-based” by Aalto University (AALTO). The introductions were followed by an interactive exploration, thanks to this hands-on activity all consortium members had the chance to fully understand the Datemats 4 EM&Ts areas.

MATERFAD  PARTECIPATED IN THE ADC*E FESTIVAL 2019: ROBERT THOMPSON ADRESSING THE "TABOO MATERIALS"

The ADC*E European Creativity Festival is an annual event bringing together creative professionals from around Europe and is all about innovative ideas that bring positive change, challenging the way we see creativity and inspiring shifts in perceptions that will help reshape the future. This year’s festival, it’s 6th edition held from November 7th and 8th in Barcelona, celebrated the people who are already building a better tomorrow, who employ their creativity for good, who believe tomorrow’s problems will not exist if we start today. One of them is Robert Thompson, Scientific Director and Head of Training at Materfad, who hosted a workshop titled “Taboo Materials”. As Thompson explained in an interview about the workshop, “taboo materials” are any material considered by society as improper for either subjective or culturally bound reasons. The workshop addressed the need of having creatives and experts in advertising and marketing, to bring these “taboo materials” to industry and to the consumers. Read the full interview here.
